Yowie originated when Pete Smith decided he needed something "extra" to have whilst ski touring to cover the times when his skis weren't getting him where he wanted to go. Conventional snowshoes weren't suited to Australia's wet and sticky snow, the webbing iced over and too much snow accummulated under his heel. He found that the very first yowie did not only what he wanted it to do but enabled him to "dance circles in the snow"

Investment in the latest automated production machines and processes has enabled Yowie Co. to efficiently manufacture high quality componentry. We assemble and package entirely in-house and each shoe is carefully inspected prior to dispatch. All aspects of the construction process are closely monitored to ensure consistely high quality components and workmanship. The copolymer deck material is injection molded, parameters are carefully monitored and batch tested to ensure optimum physical properties.
